Clinical Pharmacology Research Projects

 
 
The research projects going on in the laboratory include:
  1. Pharmacokinetics and outcomes of chloroquine – sulphadoxine/ pyrimethamine combination treatment of malaria in Uganda.

  2. Development of field adapted analytical methods for determining antimalarial drug level in body fluids and their application in clinical studies

  3. Patient Compliance and Antiretroviral Drug Metabolism as Determinants to Clinical Outcomes among HIV/AIDS Patients in Uganda

  4.  Pharmacokinetics Studies of HIV ant retroviral drugs: Efavirenz and Stavudine using
    our   state- of – the art HPLC equipment

  5. On going Collaborative research with Biochemistry Department, Makerere University with
    Phase I being - analysing serum retinol and carotenoids (Baseline Data generation) using
    High Pressure Liquid Chromatography

In the first 4 enlisted projects, the Department is collaborating closely with the Department of Clinical Pharmacology of Karolinska Institute in Sweden.

A grant has been written to strengthen research in pharmacokinetics of antiretroviral drugs and antimalarials. This has been done in collaboration with the Infectious disease Institute, University of Dublin, Ireland
