Biomedical Research Training Course
This is a short course which is conducted annually. The aim of this course is to strengthen biomedical research in Uganda by training young graduates.The course covers aspects of Virology, Immunology, Molecular Biology, and Epidemiology and Drug Analysis.  The course is also rich in a number of laboratory techniques, many of which are applicable in industries. The course has attracted participants from both the public and private sector. The annual intake is 10 participants.  The course is held in collaboration with the City College of the City University of New York and Karolinska Institute, Sweden both of which send facilitators.

National Pharmaceutical Management Course
This course provides the package of minimum skills for healthcare providers handling antiretroviral drugs (ARVs). The course was developed to support the on-going expansion and up scaling of antiretroviral services in Uganda. The course covers aspects of drug storage, dispensing, quantification, rational use, counselling, and proper inventory management of ARVs. This course was conducted for the first time in March 2006. It attracted 30 participants from all over Uganda. The National Pharmaceutical Management Course is going to be a biannual event for the next 3 years and subsequently demand driven.  The course is conducted in collaboration with the Department of Pharmacy, Infectious Disease Institute and Management Sciences for Health, USA

Monitoring, Training and Planning (MTP)
It is a new innovative approach to improving use of medicines in Uganda. The Department of Pharmacology together with the Department of Pharmacy with support from Management Sciences for Health launched this new innovative approach for improving pharmaceutical Management at facility level. Initially, the following pilot six hospitals in Uganda were covered; Virika Hospital (Fort Portal), Apac Hospital (Northern Uganda), Kiboga Hospital (Central region), Bushenyi MC (Western region), Vila Maria (Central region ) and Aber Health Unit (Northern region).

Staff of the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, Makerere University work with Health providers from Vila Maria, Aber Health centre and Kiboga Hospital and University of Cape Town, South Africa   to develop Standard operating procedures for the dispensaries at the hospitals.
