POST DOCTORAL RESEARCH FELLOW (DATA SCIENTIST/BIOINFORMATION) (DURBAN)

Description

The incumbent will be a member of the Ndung’u Group and the research will entail translational HIV immunology work. The research work is in the broad area of HIV immunopathogenesis, with the goal of informing effective vaccine or immunotherapy development. Specifically, the work will include flow cytometry and transcriptome-based analysis of immune cells in the context of HIV infection. The incumbent will also need experience or willingness to learn bioinformatic approaches related to understanding the impact of HIV on human immune cells.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Phenotypic and/or functional analyses of immune cells by flow cytometry
  2. Bioinformatic and computational analyses of large Next-Generation sequencing data of immune cells
  3. Basic molecular biology procedures
  4. Technology transfer between collaborators and other stakeholders
  5. Training and supervision of technicians and interns
  6. Presentation of results to the group and the wider scientific community
  7. Preparation of scientific manuscripts

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  1. PhD degree in immunology, virology, biochemistry or related or related fields.

Minimum Experience

  1. Experience in flow cytometry and flow cytometry data analysis
  2. Experience or willingness to learn skills in analyzing large Next-Generation sequencing data.
  3. Detailed knowledge of the procedures relevant to the work will be an added advantage.
  4. Publications in peer-reviewed journals are an added advantage.
